Here are the answers to some questions I asked our potential GM's. We have 3 potential GM's to pick from but to date I have only received resumes from 2 of them. We will use this info to vote for our new GM.
Here's my answers to the questions you sent. Do I still need to to whip up a resume?
1. How often would you check your messages on this site?
I'll check my messages a minimum of twice daily. I'll also be sure to be a frequent poster on the site, if only just to drum up up some conservation and stir the proverbial pot.
2. How long do you think is reasonable to wait for an answer to a message?
To me, 24 hours is reasonanble enough. You guys have set that as an unwritten standard, so if anything I'd send didn't get answered for a couple of days, I'd assume it wasn't out of ignorance, but a deliberate snub. You can expect the same consistency from me, but I don't intend to cold shoulder anyone.
3a. How many drafts are you in?
Presently, I'm only involved in one draft, but I've been in an annual draft with Jay since 1993, and I've won 3 consecutive playoff drafts, each involving at least 10 participants.
3b. How often do you trade in your other drafts?
Usually the number of deals I make tend to vary depending on the position I'm in in a given year, but I will always initiate and welcome conversation at any time. On average. I'd say I cut a deal every couple of months, but given the eagerness with which you guys wheel and deal, I'd say that would greatly increase in this league.
4a. If you are not chosen for this year would you like to be put on a waiting list?
Yes, but expansion means dilution. The sooner I can compete with you guys, the better.
4b. If you are on the waiting list how active on this site do you think you have to be to retain your spot on the waiting list?
If there is an agreed rate of activity on the site that's mandatory and enforced, it shouldn't have to be as regular as the activity of current franchise owners. Perhaps a minimum of a post a week, or some other action would suffice, as long as there was some way to include them other than just making them honourary Peanut Gallery members...
5. Who do you know in this pool?
I know Jay, Rich, Cory and Keith.
6. What is your hockey playing/fantasy hockey draft experience?
-Annual hockey draft (with Jay) since 1993 (with the exception of 2001 and 2008); posted 6 victories
-Participated in 7 Playoff Drafts since 1995; won last 3 consecutive drafts
-Currently competing in 5 year keeper league with Jay, Rich and Cory (7 franchises, this is year 3); amassed
7. Tell us a little about you and what you will bring to this league.
I've been an avid-no, rabid-hockey fan since the Oilers were in the WHA, and I know enough to tell you that Therrien ought to bench Sykora after he gets his second the night, you can tell which Alien is which by the way they hold their sticks on the bench, Parros has the best porn 'stach since Dennis Maruk, Jeff Brown is to Mike Comrie as Kirk McLean is to Tommy Salo, and the most depressing thing in life is to watch a highlight reel of Marchant's breakaways after '97. I'll be thoroughly prepared to select the best team available, and then go to work trying to build a team that can compete just like the guy that bought a house in Saskatchewan with a paper clip.
Hey Jason,
Here are the answers to those questions, I hope that I have given you enough information. If not feel free to have me elaborate some more. I will be excited to join the league, and have read the expansion team rules. Hope to hear from you soon.
1. How often would you check your messages on this site?
Most likely I would check for messages almost every day, if not every other day during the regular season, and most likely on a weekly basis during offseason. I currently am in another keeper league with a much different platform, and I check the site, and my indbox for messages on a daily basis.
2. How long do you think is reasonable to wait for an answer to a message?
It would all depend on whether you are in the regualar season, or offseason. During the regualr season I would say that responding to messages should be done asap, of course understanding that pending circumstances, or requiring time to think over an offer may take more time, but I would say within a day or two is understandable, and at tops a week to reply. During the Offseason I would have to say that it may be more likely that an answer could take longer, as we are all busy enjoying the few short summer months we have, but that the answering asap is greatly appreciated, and on average I would say that it would be reasonable for answers to messages to be about a week.
3a. How many drafts are you in?
Cuurently I am in one other Keeper league cor the past two years that is based on a hockey simulator, so it is completely different. But it is still based on NHL performance, and includes drafts, transactions, waivers, etc. Other than that I join a few hockey pools on Yahoo just for fun, and to keep up to date with players on the majority of teams that I don't get to see very often. I'm looking to join another keeper as I have had a lot of fun so far in my current league, and enjoy the challenge of building a team from scratch.
3b. How often do you trade in your other drafts?
I trade as often as I can if my team needs something, or is missing something. But I prefer to trade for Draft Picks and Young talent to develop, as it is important to develop a team from within. But definitely trading assets to have a shot at the future is not out of the question. Sometimes it seems like my teams can be revolving doors for players..Haha. I spend a lot of time researching who I want, and than try to reach an agreement with another GM that is suitable for both teams and benefits both sides if possible, but of course if I feel that I am coming out on top than I will pull the trigger.
4a. If you are not chosen for this year would you like to be put on a waiting list?
If I am not chosen for this year than I would appreciate being kept on the waiting list for the next available chance to join.
4b. If you are on the waiting list how active on this site do you think you have to be to retain your spot on the waiting list?
I wouldn't be checking it on a daily basis, but I would probably see what's going on every other week, or couple weeks. This way I can get a feel for trades, and what other GM's favor in adavance of joining. Also to see what kinda team needs to be built in order to compete.I would stay up to date with the pool.
5. Who do you know in this pool?
I know Danny Kolmatycki (I have no idea if that is spelled correctly but I'm sure you know who I'm talking about).
6. What is your hockey playing/fantasy hockey draft experience?
I have 2 years in another keeper league, along with the past 5 year playing Yahoo Pools, both in Football, and Hockey. Other than that I don't have a lot of experience, but I do follow almost every team in the NHL, and keep an eye on prospects, and players. I have a fair bit of drafting experience, and have been told that I am good at scouting out players.
7. Tell us a little about you and what you will bring to this league.
My name is Christopher Butler, But I go by Chris, I'm 26, enjoy the outdoors, camping, biking, fishing, etc. I also enjoy a fair amount of sports and play in mens league soccer, teach Tae Kwon Do, and watch a lot of hockey, and sports in general. I'm not sure what you are looking for exactly in a GM, but I can say that I will bring a very active role to any league. I stay up to date with prospects, and love drafting. I am constantly searching for a deal to better my team, or take a shot at making any moves to win. I am fairly reasonable, and will not try and gouge other GM's, but at the same time if I have a deal in mind I will try and make it work for both parties. I will bring a fair amount of knowledge about the current NHL, and it's players/prospects, as well as stay up to date with the league, and hockey in general. On another note I am still fairly young so taking 5 years to develop a team is not out of the question for me, if it takes that long. Also if any of you are in need of plumbing advice, or help I may be available for the right price..haha.
