I am definitely not keen on this being a free for all of 3 forwards 2 defense &1 goalie. That means 1 team could lose 6players from their roster!! There has to be a better structure than that;)
Keep in mind that every team is made up of 12 forwards, 6def, 2 goalies.
That means that every team has to lose at least two players. I suggest you have a better look at the guidelines around expansion.

As well looking at my team alone it is comprised of youth, and prospects. If I lose 2-6players from what I have built up already that will hurt my team In the long run and the short run!
Want to have an expansion than let them pick from the free agent pool and let them draft the same year! They can build from there.

I agree with chris no team should loose 6 players his idea of 2-3 lost is good of the 3F2D1G once you loose the 2 or 3 players the rest are unavailable.

Read more silly guys. Three forwards Two defenceman One goalie. The most one team can lose is three players. 3x9 = 27 man roster. This would bring the league back to ten teams. And I would let him chose five players for prospects. At the end of the draft.
